You don't want to miss this year's tour as it takes you around the County to see these inspiring and inviting gardens:

Beverly and Jim Putnam, 123 Preston Trail, Kings Mountain (Woodbridge)

Coming from a family of gardeners, Beverly has spent much of the last 25 years fashioning their yard with pass alongs from old home places and friends. Azaleas which originated in Charleston, irises from the farm, bulbs and cuttings from cousins and gifts from fellow Master Gardeners. Most recently, she acquired a rooting of a fig tree from her mother’s homeplace in Charlotte which has been gone over 20 years, and a banana tree from my sister, who passed away last year. If the garden were to have a theme, it would be love and memories. As an artist, Beverly enjoys experimenting with color and texture in her “exterior decorating’ having tried and failed many times, she still enjoys getting in the dirt. There’s no better feeling than walking the yard and seeing things popping up or leafing out. Like so many, their garden will continue to be a work in progress with new planting and removals. Currently, they are trying to create a wild area for pollinators. Be sure to see the “Sittin’ Spot”, aptly named by their grandson, and much enjoyed by Jim who has dug, planted and hauled more than his fair share over the years. And if you are lucky, you may find one of our daily errant golf balls from the 15th fairway! Fore! Small art works based on the garden will be available for purchase (cash only).

Shannon King, Le Chateau du Coeur, 527 Whitaker Rd., Boiling Springs

Nestled in the gentle rolling hills of Cleveland County, the chateau's gardens offer a refined blend of European elegance and Southern grace. A winding gravel path leads guests through manicured hedges beside the pool with massive stone waterfalls and along the vine draped pergola. At the heart of the garden lies a formal parterre, roses burst with seasonal blooms along with hydrangeas, and lilies—carefully curated to offer vibrant color from early spring through late autumn. Stone and copper fountains and classical statuary lend a timeless quality, their soft water murmurs mingling with the gentle hum of bees and birdsong. Beyond the formal grounds, a woodland trail meanders through native dogwoods, redbuds, and flowering shrubs, opening onto the pastures. Here, the landscape shifts from cultivated refinement to natural serenity, offering visitors moments of quiet reflection. The seating in the grove is quiet and contemplative. Whether hosting elegant outdoor events or serving as a private retreat, the chateau’s gardens stand as a living tapestry—where Southern hospitality meets old-world sophistication in perfect harmony.

Andy and Jennifer Elmore, 810 E Stagecoach Trail, Fallston

Welcome to our home, “The Lackey House." Dating back to 1912, our historic property, features a shaded garden with cozy corners and original plantings that are the basis of the garden. One highlight is a pink azalea that has been here since the early days of the homeplace. Gardening has always been part of our lives in one way or another. You’ll find hydrangeas, hellbores, azaleas, hostas, ferns and more throughout the place. We’re glad to share it as part of this year’s garden tour. Free parking will be available at The Historic Stamey Event Center.

Bill and Beth Cameron, 3016 Bettis Rd., Grover

Come visit our home with its gardens, trails, forests, creeks and cabins. Located one mile south of Earl on 37 acres of former cotton fields, walk through lanes of transplanted day-lilies, daffodils, shrubs and trees. "Forest bathe" your senses as you stroll 100 yards or a mile or take a ride in a golf cart. Walk to our two cabins, covered bridge and pond by fording a creek.
