Guidelines for Cleveland County Arts Council Student Art Exhibit & Competition

ELEMENTARY - Grades K - 5

All media acceptable

Minimum size - 9" X 12"

Maximum size - 18" X 24" including mat

All two-dimensional entries must be mounted on one sheet of construction paper and ready for hanging.  Push pins or tape will be used to mount work for hanging. Please try to avoid framed pieces and don’t make the backing too heavy. It falls off the walls!

Each school is allowed to send entries that equal no more than 5% of their total school enrollment.  Work can be chosen by an art teacher or designated faculty member or administrator. Students may submit their own work or parents may submit work for their child.

No more than one entry per child will be accepted.

All work must be original.  NO COPIES OR TRACINGS.

Work previously displayed in Cleveland County Arts Council shows is not permitted.

Use the attached name labels placing one on the lower right front corner of the picture.  Clearly print the information on each label.  You may make copies of the labels if you need extra.  Also, write the student’s name on the back of the work in case the label falls off.

Any work that does not adhere to these guidelines is subject to disqualification.

Elementary Artwork will be on exhibit only, no prizes will be given.

MIDDLE SCHOOL - Grades 6 - 8

Artwork accepted in the following categories:

Painting

Drawing

Mixed Media

Print Making

Three Dimensional

Upcycled/Recycled Art

Maximum size - 36" X 48"

All entries must be matted with a rigid cardboard or foam core backing with a sturdy hanging device securely attached (except for 3-D).  A protective covering is recommended for two-dimensional work but is not required.

Use a stiff board (preferably foam core) for backing the pictures.  This will strengthen the mat and protect the pictures from punctures.  Secure the backing to the mat board sufficiently to withstand hanging for the duration of the exhibit.  Every year, many pictures separate from the backing allowing the pictures to fall to the floor.

Use a cord threaded through the backing board so we can hang the work.  Make this strong enough to withstand hanging for the duration of the exhibit. String or yarn taped to the back does not work well.  Framed artwork is discouraged.

Use the attached name labels placing one on the lower right front corner of the mat board.  Clearly print the information on each label.  You may make copies of the labels if you need extra.  Also, write the student’s name on the back of the work in case the label falls off.

Each school is allowed to send no more than 50 entries from their enrollment. Work should be chosen by an art teacher or designated faculty member or administrator.
