Coco’s Creators

Get ready for an artistic fiesta! In this camp we will be using all types of mediums to create exciting projects inspired by the popular movie, Coco! We will be painting a funky portrait of Dante the dog, dabbling in jewelry making as we design festive guitar necklaces, and also creating our own customized Sugar Skull mask!

Exploring the Masters

We will be inspired by art created by Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Henry Matisse and Pablo Picasso. We will recreate famous works of art like Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Monet’s Water Lilies, Matisse’s The Flight of Icarus, and many others. Make room on your walls! You are is going to be very proud of your masterpieces!

June 25 - 29

Beginning Guitar

Cost $55                               Al Dunkleman

Interested in learning how to play the guitar? In this class you will learn basic acoustic folk/bluegrass/country chording and strumming techniques. You will learn how to hold the guitar, finger chords and hold and use a pick. During this week the goal will be for students to successfully learn and strum a simple two/three chord song individually and as a group. Students must bring their own guitar.

June 25 - 29

Beginning Woodworking

Cost $60                               Al Dunkleman

This class will focus on the basics of working with wood. Students will learn how to use a sanding block, hammer, nail set, and screw driver, along with finishing techniques. All materials, tools, safety glasses and dust masks will be provided. Students will not operate any power tools as all projects will be precut and predrilled for sanding, gluing and assembling. Using new and reclaimed wood, students will make a napkin holder, bird feeder and tool caddy.

June 25 - 29

Travel the World

Do you love culture and travel? Are you interested in Europe, South America, Africa, Asia or Australia? In this camp you can explore a country from every continent! Each day of camp will be dedicated to 2 different countries! We will learn about their culture & what types of art they make. We will make a famous type of art from each country that you can take home.

It’s All About Paint

This week is all about paint! We are going to drip it, roll it, throw it, and step in it....whatever you can imagine with it! We will see the effects of gravity and water on our paint as well. Come wearing your old clothes and get ready to get dirty!

NEATure

Nature’s pretty neat! Do you love playing outside and finding adventures in your backyard? In this class you will learn how to draw more realistically and USE nature to make the art. Have you ever really studied what a flower looks like? Or have you ever made a sculpture of sticks? We will do all this and more in NEATure camp!

July 9 – 13

Dory’s Sea Critters

Explore the deep blue sea with fun crafts and projects focusing on our underwater friends! We will be making art with different animals from the movie, plus throwing in other animals that live in the ocean. Most of our animals will be 3-D sculpture with household items (not clay), but we will also focus on painting and drawing.

July 16 – 20

Exploring Asian Art

In this class we will be looking at multiple forms of Asian art! From cherry blossom trees, to mandalas, to Asian landscapes, we will use the art techniques of Asia and the many artists who live there as inspiration for our own work. We will explore different materials as we travel through different regions, from paint to printmaking to folding paper and different types of sculpture.

July 16 – 20

Preschool Art Camp

Come join us for a week of imaginative, colorful art creations! All of our projects will be based on themes and characters from a variety of well-loved children’s books such as Green Eggs and Ham, Where the Wild Things Are and Ferdinand the Bull (just to name a few). We will create vibrant and fun illustrations, sculptures, collages, paintings, and drawings.

Avengers Infinity Art

Escape into a world of fantasy with your favorite Marvel characters through an action packed week of super powered art exploration and projects. Students will be creating various projects that are inspired by some of Marvels biggest heroes. From Thor’s hammer to Thanos’s gauntlet students will find themselves emerged in the world of their favorite heros. Students will be creating items such as comic strips, Captain America’s shield, and much, much more! I hope to see you there!

July 23 – 27

Gotta Catch Them All!

Students will spend a week creating art based on the beloved characters of Pokemon, from Pikachu to Meowth! Students will be working in various materials to create projects that both engage the student as well as open the door for a fun filled week of learning and exploration. We will follow the footsteps of Ash Ketchum on his journey to be the greatest Pokemon trainer ever while dodging the wild antics of Team Rocket. I hope to see you there!

Under the Sea in 3-D!

Create amazing sea creatures and environments under the ocean waves. Using hand-building techniques such as coil, pinch, and slab, you will make clay creations inspired by coral reefs, the deep ocean, and the beach. 

No experience is necessary.

Scavenger Sculpture

Design and build your own personal life-sized sculpture! We will explore three dimensional form, materials and assemblage techniques. Each student will create a uniquely individual sculpture by transforming and manipulating a combination of up-cycled materials. By week’s end, you will have created your very own one-of-a-kind sculpture! Students - please bring washed and emptied plastic bottles.

Watercolor & Tie Dye Wonders

Explore the wondrous world of watercolor and the fabulous fun of tie dye! You will learn about different watercolor techniques using wax resist, salt speckling, tape resist, and more. You will also create incredible tie dye creations.

“It’s Show Time!”

Do you yearn to see your name in lights?  Are you meant for the big screen?  Then you need to join our theatre workshop where you can become familiar with the world of theatre by playing various theatre games as we work towards a special performance for your friends and families at the end of the week.

Recycled Fashion Divas!

In this fun class, students will design and construct fashionable clothing out of recycled materials! On Friday of that week,

a fashion show will be held at noon in the gallery of the Arts Council featuring the students in their creations! The morning and afternoon classes of Recycled Fashion Divas will both be featured in the noon show. What a treat to end the week! (Class will still be held on Friday afternoon. The afternoon students will create an additional recycled project!)

August 6 - 10

Recycled Doll Houses!

Imagination is wildly encouraged in this class! While students start with a pre-cut cardboard doll house, they will be provided lots of inspirational materials to make it their own! We will also fill it with furniture, accessories and dolls, of course! And no worries parents, the doll house will not be as large as their room!

August 6 - 10

T-Shirts: Upcycled and Redesigned!

Let’s take ordinary t-shirts and redesign them into trendy shirts, bags, pillows and more! We will use t-shirts of all colors, designs and sizes to create items to wear and use! While some t-shirts will be supplied, students do need to bring additional ones to work with. (Knowledge of basic hand sewing is helpful but not necessary. It will be taught as part of the class.)

Art From a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Join the fight against the Dark Side in this week long Star Wars adventure! Young Jedi’s will construct their own light saber, design a droid, and engage in other Star Wars arts and crafts. Come join us as we explore a galaxy far, far away!

August 6 - 10

Swinging From the Trees

This week we will create clay pieces using wood, leaves, bark, roots and branches to bring to life creatures, both real and imaginary, who make their homes in trees. Come make and learn about the Dryad from Greek mythology, tree ghosts from Thailand and woodpeckers and spider monkeys!

Aug. 13 - 17

“Acting Up”

Cost $70                               Dee Hunt

Experience the life of a movie star while working together and having fun! Campers will go through the process of creating and acting out skits from auditions through rehearsal to performing. It will nurture passion for theater and engage the imagination. You will have an opportunity to jump into some hilarious improv work and dazzle your family and friends at the performance on Friday. Don’t worry about lunch—it will be provided each day!

9am – 1pm

Rising 3rd – 8th; limit 30 students


DISCOUNTS: Families will receive a 10% discount if child is registered weekly for the entire summer.

 

REGISTRATION: Payment must be made with registration. Registration cannot be made by phone unless using MasterCard/Visa/Discover. All classes will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Enrollment is limited.

 

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS: The Arts Council reserves the right to cancel a class if a minimum enrollment of 5 is not attained, unless otherwise noted. In such instances, previously paid fees will be fully refunded. Parents who need to withdraw their child/children from any Summer Arts Camp should contact the Arts Council at the earliest time possible. You will receive a refund, less $10 service charge per camp session only when notice is received at least a minimum of five (5) business days before the first class meeting. We will transfer your child to a later session if space is available.

* Students should enter the Arts Center at the Warren Street side of the building, not the front door.

* Wear old clothing for all classes.
