“Exploring Clay”

Come explore the creative possibilities of clay in this exciting ceramics class.  Learn the methods of hand building—coiling, pinching, building with slabs and sculpting. We will explore different ways to add textures and surface designs to clay and the result will be the creation of many one-of-a-kind artworks crafted with clay.

“Moana’s Journey”

Are you happy on the island or is the sea calling you? See the line where the sky meets the sea? Does it call your name? We will spend the week using sand, shells and lots of other things from the sea and the beach to create art. We will build a raft, do tribal painting and draw our favorite characters from Moana. Come journey with us this week.

“It’s Show Time!”

Do you yearn to see your name in lights? Are you meant for the big screen? Then you need to join our theatre workshop where you can become familiar with the world of theatre by playing various theatre games as we work towards a special performance for your friends and families at the end of the week.

“Beginning Ukulele”

If you are interested in playing a stringed instrument, the ukulele is a great place to start. The skills learned playing the ukulele can also help in playing other strings instruments like the guitar, violin or banjo. In this class students will learn basic chords and strumming patterns and be able to play songs both individually and with a group. Student must provide their own instrument.

“Beginning Guitar”

Interested in learning how to play the guitar? In this class you will learn basic acoustic folk/bluegrass/country chording and strumming techniques. You will learn how to hold the guitar, finger chords and hold and use a pick. During this week the goal will be for students to successfully learn and strum a

simple two/three chord song individually and as a group. Students must bring their own guitar.

“It’s All About Paint!”

This week is all about paint! We are going to drip it, roll it, throw it, and step in it....whatever you can imagine with it! We will see the effects of gravity and water on our paint as well.  Come wearing your old clothes and get ready to get dirty!

“Paint With the Masters”

Do you want to be a famous artist?! We will be inspired by famous artists  such as Vincent Van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, Frida Kahlo and Romero Brito. If you want to learn how to be the next master artist this is the class for you! As we learn about these masters we will enjoy painting, drawing, fiber arts and more!

“Mix it up!”

Tear, cut, rip, paste, glue, paint, draw, assemble - CREATE! In this fun class, students will make colorful, mixed media masterpieces. From paint, papers, fibers, recycled materials and more, kids will explore texture, collage, color, surface design and composition. Learn how to mix and combine materials to create awesome art. The result will be the creation of one-of-a-kind colorful art pieces that show off each child’s unique personality.

“Art Camp for Preschoolers

Come join us for a week of imaginative, colorful art creations! All of our projects will be based on themes and characters from books written and illustrated by the beloved children’s author, Eric Carle. We will create vibrant and fun illustrations, sculptures, collages, paintings, and drawings all inspired by Eric Carle’s creative illustration style. The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grouchy Ladybug, The Tiny Seed, and the Mixed Up Chameleon are a few of the books we will be using for inspiration!

“Nature Art”

“Color Explosion Party”

Come join us for a week of tie-dye and wild colorful creations!  We will create a cool tie-dye t-shirt, socks, and bandanna. We will also use other techniques to create colorful works of art like squirt gun painting, bubble print making, and scratch art. If you like color, being active, and doing different things this class is for you! Students - please bring a t-shirt to be tie-dyed and a clean pair of socks for your student.

“Once Upon A Time”

“Jewelry Party”

Join us for a week of fun jewelry making! We will create all sorts of cute accessories from fancy necklaces to patterned bracelets to cool keychains! Some of the beautiful pieces we will create include jelly bean bracelets, clay charms, a troll headband, and a jewelry pouch. If you love jewelry and

wearing your own works of art, you will love this class!

“Leonardo’s Workshop”

Follow in his footsteps at Leonardo’s Workshop, by designing, tinkering, and testing countless solutions to the hands-on, thought intensive quest you’ll encounter.

Calling all animal lovers! This week will be filled with nothing but love for our furry friends. From dogs to cats to bunnies (remember Snowflake?) we’ll be learning about all types of animals all while drawing and painting them! We may even make a few pet-friendly treats for our furry friends at home! Be ready for a week full of fun inspired by our friends Max, Duke, and more!

“A Camper’s Life for Me”

“Mysteries of the Carolinas”

Aug. 14 - 18

“Acting Up”

Experience the life of a movie star while working together and having fun! Campers will go through the process of creating and acting out skits from auditions through rehearsal to performing. It will nurture passion for theater and engage the imagination. You will have an opportunity to jump into some hilarious improv work and dazzle your family and friends at the performance on Friday. Don’t worry about lunch—it will be provided each day!

DISCOUNTS: Families will receive a 10% discount if child is registered weekly for the entire summer.

 

REGISTRATION: Payment must be made with registration. Registration cannot be made by phone unless using MasterCard/Visa/Discover. All classes will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Enrollment is limited.

 

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS: The Arts Council reserves the right to cancel a class if a minimum enrollment of 5 is not attained, unless otherwise noted. In such instances, previously paid fees will be fully refunded. Parents who need to withdraw their child/children from any Summer Arts Camp should contact the Arts Council at the earliest time possible. You will receive a refund, less $10 service charge per camp session only when notice is received at least a minimum of five (5) business days before the first class meeting. We will transfer your child to a later session if space is available.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

* Students should enter the Arts Center at the Warren Street side of the building, not the front door.

* Wear old clothing for all classes.
