Embroider your heart out in this fun, fiber-focused workshop, taught by WNC artist, Jeannie Thomma.  Beautiful & Bold Embroidered Knits takes embroidery to a whole new level.  Think color, texture, and stitched imagery, that elevates ordinary or worn-out knit clothes and accessories, transforming them into your new favorites in just a few hours. 

Embroidering knits isn’t difficult, but it requires a slightly different approach than embroidering woven fabric. In this highly-meditative class, you’ll be introduced to the special tools and techniques that make this type of embroidering easy!

In this afternoon workshop, Jeannie will teach you some basic embroidery stitches that you can use to embellish a favorite knit sweater or accessory, or create a "patch" or "pocket" on a knitted fabric square (available in class), that you can stitch to your choice of garments or frame as a keepsake.

You’ll have a collection of popular designs to choose from, or you can sketch your own.  Then, selecting a palette of yarn that sings to you, coupled with the beautiful embroidery stitches you’ve learned, you’ll spend your afternoon in community, enjoying this centering craft.  By the end of class, you’ll have added some playful pop to your wardrobe.  

Adults, and teens 14+

Skill level: beginner-intermediate

Supplies Provided by Instructor: Embroidery hoop, yarn, knit fabric, embroidery needles, stencils, transfer paper, marking pens and pencils

Supplies Students Should Bring: A wool, wool blend or acrylic knit sweater or accessory (e.g., scarf, mittens, hat, bag), any favorite yarn that you’d like to use to embroider with; embroidery scissors.
